Color Trashcans is a ResEdit 2.1 document containing 12 full color animated trashcan replacements for System 7 users. In order to use these files, you need a working knowledge of ResEdit and editing System resources.
To change your trashcan to one of the included newbies, first make a copy of your System file. NEVER work on an open System file! Open the COPY of your System file with ResEdit, then open Color Trashcans. In the System file, you want to open the 'icl8' resource. Renumber your existing trashcans by selecting them and using the Get Info command. (Do not delete them, as you might want them again.) When renumbering, I usually simply remove the minus sign. Next, copy and paste BOTH vesions of the new trashcan you wish to use into your System file. Renumber them to the resource numbers the original trashcan had (ie, -3993 for the empty and -3984 for the full, respectively.) Save changes to your System file, quit ResEdit, replace your original System file with your edited version, and restart your system. Voila.
Note that if you copy the entire icl8 resource, you DO NOT need to copy the icl4, icn#, and ics#, 4 and 8 resources, as all are included in icl8.
